Living in Paris • Prepare Your Visit

Searching for the perfect apartment in Paris? What you should look for to really enjoy your new place.

First Impressions

Upon arriving to the apartment's neighborhood, you'll want to make sure to time your walk from the subway station.

In front of the building, look at the frontage, then the hall. The impression should be pleasant in the day and comforting when you arrive home at night;  think that your guests will probably feel just like you! Determine how your mail will be delivered to you, and if a "gardienne" living in the building will be present to receive parcels and to monitor the comings and goings.

Today, there is a lift, or an elevator, in most Parisian buildings. If you travel often, make sure it is big enough to fit your suitcases. If one of your visitors uses a wheelchair, can he or she easily enter and exit the building/apartment?

With the Interior of the Apartment, Every Detail Counts

The Living Room

In the living room, ensure that the furniture is comfortable. Are you an avid reader? If so, is there a comfortable chair and adequate lighting to be comfortable and free of eye straining? Is the television's picture quality clear and up to par? Ask yourself if the sofa is comfortable enough to spend the whole evening lounging. Also check that the sofa is convertible because that will ensure you an extra bed if your family and friends visit you in the city of  lights.

Then, ensure that the dining room table is large enough to entertain and that there are enough chairs for your guests.

Internet and Telephone

Find out if the subscription will be activated on your arrival and that the unlimited calls option for the phone has been enabled.

The Bedroom

Try the bed to judge the firmness of the mattress and the size so that your toes won't hang over the end! Also ensure that the closets are large enough for your wardrobe.
